Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi
Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (September 30 1207 – December 17 1273), better known as simply Mevlana Rumi, was a Persian poet, scholar, and Sufi mystic. He was born in Iran and later migrated to Turkey. Rumi’s poetry is infused with an intense love for God, and passionately urges the seeker towards personal growth so as to reach inner peace.
For centuries, his iconic work in poetry and music has enthralled the world with its universal message of spiritual ascent and uniting with the divine. Considered a great mystical master, his legacy endures to the present day, with deep appreciation from people of all major religions across the globe.

UNFOLDING THE ROSE
It is only a tiny rosebud,
A flower of God’s design;
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine.
The secret of unfolding flowers
is not known to such as I.
GOD opens this flower so sweetly,
When in my hands they fade and die.
If I cannot unfold a rosebud,
This flower of God’s design,
Then how can I think I have wisdom
To unfold this life of mine?
So I’ll trust in Him for His leading
Each moment of every day.
I will look to Him for His guidance
Each step of the pilgrim way.
The pathway that lies before me,
Only my Heavenly Father knows.

I have been coming to Turkey in the last ten years. And how this place is filled so much with spirituality. Perhaps we have had so many sufis here, must be something in this country that there so many sufis were created. And I have read about them and I have read about Rumi and all of others. And I find they described the quality of a sufi, the state of his mind, very beautiful. But they didn’t say how to become sufis. They described also very well absolutely and very truthfully whatever was the achievement, but nobody could say that how they achieved it. [2001-0424]
